Recording a sequel to summer smash “Love The Way You Lie” was the last thing on Rihanna’s mind at the onset. “When I first heard the idea about doing a part two, I was just completely against it,” she recently told MTV News. “I just felt like you couldn’t beat the original. There’s no way you can outdo that, so why compete with it?” But lo and behold, part two of the song has made its way onto her upcoming album Loud—with Eminem in tow! Hear it below. Whereas the original version of Eminem’s song only featured Rihanna on the chorus, “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)” finds the Marie Claire cover girl taking the driver’s seat.

“You’ll always be my hero even though you’ve lost your mind,” Rihanna laments in the lyrics of this more pensive, piano-driven version of the song. Later she sings, “In this tug of war you’ll always win, even when I’m right.”

Eminem comes in after about three minutes with a biting rap: “Hush, baby, speak softly / Tell me you’re awfully sorry you pushed me into the coffee table last night so I can push you off me.”

But after hearing the lyrical story of abuse from Rihanna’s point of view on “Part II,” it seems to give Eminem’s original version the arc we never knew it needed.
