When all was said and done, Christina Aguilera/Cher movie musical Burlesque took in a five-day haul of $17.1 million at the box office over the long Thanksgiving weekend. By comparison, Xtina’s Mickey Mouse Club cohort Britney Spears saw her debut feature film Crossroads open with $14.5 million over a normal three-day weekend in 2002. As for the movie, yes, we saw it. And it wasn’t that bad. Of course, having a glass or three of Cabernet beforehand during Thanksgiving dinner might have enhanced the “Hey—at least it’s better than Showgirls” notion.

And regarding the Burlesque‘s fourth place box office opening, the Los Angeles Times pondered, “Maybe…it’s a question of not wanting to see a contemporary multi-platinum recording artist as an ingenue, as [Mariah] Carey was in [Glitter] and Aguilera was in this one. Or maybe we just find a singer playing a singer, as so many do in these contemporary films, just a little bit redundant.”

Either way, at least the soundtrack has risen to the top of the album download heap on iTunes.

So did you see Burlesque over the Thanksgiving weekend?
