With Susan Boyle’s The Gift returning to the #1 position on the Billboard Top 200 chart on the strength of 272,000 copies sold, Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy takes a tumble in its second week. More surprising is the fact that The Black Eyed Peas’ latest, The Beginning, fails to make much of a dent in the Top 10. Where’s the boom boom pow, BEP?
The Peas’ The Beginning, which contains current single “The Time (Dirty Bit)”, enters the chart at #6 this week after selling 119,000—far lower than the 304,000 sum The E.N.D. moved in 2009 when it debuted at #1.
Was it too much to ask for the band’s fans and music buyers alike to be satisfied with a heavily Auto-Tuned re-imagining of Dirty Dancing tune “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life” as the lead single?
Debuting just above BEP, at #5, is the fourth volume of Glee: The Music (128,000). Meanwhile, the Glee Christmas album rises to #4 and will likely hang around through next week’s chart thanks to the holiday episode of the series airing last night.
The Top 10 of Billboard’s Top 200 Albums:

3. Jackie Evancho, O Holy Night

5. Glee Cast, Glee: The Music, Vol. 4 *new*
6. The Black Eyed Peas, The Beginning *new*
7. Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
8. Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday
9. Josh Groban, Illuminations
10. Rihanna, Loud

Not too surprising to me unlike there last album’s singles which everyone released I hated but then ended up loving (less so with “Boom Boom Pow”) their new material is an utter snooze-fest.
It would have been wise not to over saturate themselves by releasing this album so suddenly after the last wave considering “Rock that body” was a moderate hit just just a few months ago.
I kind of agree that it was probably too soon. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, etc.
At least the Black Eyed Peas try to be creative. Susan Boyle simply regeritates other people’s music that been done a hundred times before.
I used to LOVE the Black Eyed Peas, but I’m really not feeling their new music. I’ve been buying their albums since Elephunk, but I had to skip The Beginning. One of the worst albums I’ve ever heard. :(
