Drake Sets Off “Fireworks” With Florence Welch

Drake may be working through a Rihanna fixation these days, but last night he stunned London’s Hammersmith Apollo theater with a surprise appearance by a different redhead: Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine, who stepped out to add her own twist to “Fireworks”, off Drake’s acclaimed Thank Me Later. (She added a bit from her own “Cosmic Love”.) Did the two artists (who are rivals in the Grammy Awards’ Best New Artist category) have any chemistry onstage? See for yourself.

Florence took the stage on the second night of Drake’s London stand — she reportedly attended Friday night’s show as a fan. We still love Alicia Keys’ performance on the original, but its fascinating to hear Florence apply her big, haunting vocals to one of the most emotional, and sensuous, tunes on Drake’s LP. Here’s hoping Drake returns the favor next time Florence visits U.S. shores.
