The sex in the air from Rihanna’s “S&M” was apparently too much for several areas of the globe—at least according the UK paper the Daily Mirror, which is reporting that the song’s music video has been banned in 11 different countries. “Southern Asian countries immediately banned it, MTV is considering a re-edit, and BBC Radio 1 has vetoed playing it until after 7pm,” says the paper. Here in the States, YouTube is now warning viewers that the “S&M” video “may contain content that is inappropriate for some viewers” before asking if you wish to continue watching. The single, however, has shot up to #30 on iTunes. Do you personally feel “S&M” was offensive to the point that it needed a ban?
I think that was the whole point of the video? To get it banned and by doing that, get everyone talking about it. The song sells despite being mediocre (if that), but because of the controversy. Instant Hit! (for the wrong reasons)
I honestly think it was just too much. This is a beautiful lady with talent but it seem that she is either touching herself when she is performing or creating a video that is way to graphic. She has young people that really care about her and I think she is sending the wrong message.
She can be a freak in the bedroom – which is perfectly ok. But she should be careful the message that she sends out to the world.
Send a positive message without the sex and believe in herself that she can sell records.

you know the only ones mad are tweens and teens. they like her music because that’s the closes thing to porn for them. grown folks can always see this stuff. with that being said you have to be 21 (legally) to purchase any of the pvc outfits she wore %o if you can’t buy it why do you need to watch it? at least in MOST places you have to be 21 anywhere else most likely has high child prostitution (New York). pick up a school book, read and study it, get good grades so if you don’t agree then u can change the world!

I think it is way to provocative! My children will not be listening ti her anytime soon. I dont want them going around singing about S&M. Nor do I want them to have to ask me what a mean. What happened to the old sweet Rihanna? Did Chris beat the last bit of sweetness out of her? and The song talks about how she likes if rough and what not… apparently thats how she gets down. not classy.
LOL this video is not that controversial. Lady Gaga’s Telephone, Alejandro, and Bad Romance videos had a lot of sex controversy but they weren’t banned.
I think the media has a hypocritical treatment of sex. They glamorize things like Jersey Shore, MTV: 16 and Pregnant, and skins but at the slight mention of something involving S&M or BDSM, society believes it’s too scary because they don’t want their private sex lives and actions exposed in real life. People are still embarassed by S&M and BDSM.
Because honestly, this video wasn’t any more explicit than Alejandro’s video….

and i have a feeling getting banned is the whole point of this project. because those markets who ban it don’t make too much profit. and in those who do make a profit don’t usually ban it, so “getting banned elsewhere” can get free publicity (like here) and curiousity.

I think it is completely ridiculous that our society doesn’t think twice about violence but sex is so taboo. Maybe this video should be diluted for day time showing but banning it is going too far. I think this video is very immature, which separates it from those of Lagy Gaga, but maybe we shouldn’t try to shelter our youth quite so much. Making sex a dirty thing that is not discussed openly and honestly is probably why we have some of the highest rates of teen pregnancy and STD’s.
I think her career is going downhill, don’t know who will pay to actually see this person sing “Live”; her music was better before the whole Chris Brown thing, she needs to re-vamp her career.

I think people are acting like if they are saints. Rihanna is a grown woman, she could do what she want. Here is a question for you all that are against this video, Is it worse talking about sex then having sex? Just because there are videos out there like that does not mean that the kids will follow her footsteps, it all depends on the parents. Parents are first roll models for the kids. Seriously, why did they banned “Prince, Guns and Roses, Kiss, ect. they all have song talking about sex too. People are just over Exaggerating. Pay attention more to your children then what the out coming artist are doing, cause in the end it all up to the parents like I said.
