You Be The Judge: Porcelain Black’s “This Is What Rock N Roll Looks Like”

April 7th, 2011 // 12 Comments

We come across new artists each and every day, but sometimes we’re undecided whether a particular act is worth making a fuss over. So we’re leaving it up to you, our readers, whether we should keep tabs on a rising artist, or leave their tunes behind (or at least let them stew a bit longer before we give them another chance).

Our premiere You Be The Judge entrant is Porcelain Black, who looks like Portia Di Rossi dressed as Cruella de Vil, and describes herself as the “offspring of Marilyn Manson and Britney Spears.” She’s already been approved by Lil Wayne, who brought her along for his I Am Music II tour and is also featured on her lead single “This Is What Rock N Roll Looks Like”. But you be the judge — watch her video below and let us know if this bipolar Barbie is worth playing with again.

Honestly, it isn’t anything really special. She IS like a cross between britney and manson. However, it is not much to look at. A girl who parties around a school and struts around in polyester or nylon… can’t figure it out, because she calls it “leather and lace”. She’s got a raspy voice that seems built for heavy alt rock or screamo. It really is a mess. Despite that i think she’ll have a one hit wonder.

oh and Lil wayne looks like he’s on something in the vid. just saying.

It’s said in the title of the video, and it’s said in the song like a THOUSAND TIMES.. this is what rock n roll LOOKS like. NOT SOUNDS like.

I think it would be interesting for those who don’t know, to check out her old studd on YT as she has been doing music since 2003 under the name Porcelain and the tramps.

  4. Brimeon

Her older music is HOT. And Idolator, please follow her. She’s a much needed commodity in the pop world.

  5. She makes me miss Bif Naked. It’s nice to see pop/punk/rock women, but I just wish she wasn’t so concerned about looking sexy. I mean, does she really need to hump Weezy’s leg?

  6. you don't need this

Manson and spears? Nah….more like Pink meets motley crue

  7. Not really a fan, might be bc im not really a fan of her genre of music, whatever it is. She also looks like a character off of a scary movie, but that might be what she’s going for.

  8. LMG

someone that makes me giggle 40 seconds in you can bet I will follow. and, honestly, I LOVE her hair. so will my 18 year old daughter. and my 16 year old son. never been a big fan of Wayne but all-in-all not a bad song and video is kinda spot on.

  9. Jennifer

I have loved her for years since I came across her when she was porcelain and the tramps and I do not see that changing any time soon. This is different but I see it as a good thing. Many bands are bashed for staying the same and not changing it up a bit.

  10. porlob

This sounds like a Lords of Acid b-side from 1996. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s not earthshattering either.

She’s not a one-hit wonder. It’s Alaina Beaton for Porcelain and the Tramps. She has a huge following but she never went viral. Now she’s just renaming herself and getting out there.
