From The Decemberists and Amos Lee to Justin Bieber and Britney Spears, so far nine different 2011 releases have crowned Billboard‘s Top 200 album chart. But one standout has shown both resilience and the ability to achieve worldwide popularity: Adele’s sophomore LP 21.

Earlier this week we noted that Adele is the first UK artist to land a single in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 this year (with “Rolling In The Deep,” which is perched at #10). Now Billboard reports that 21 is on track to knock Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale off the top of the album chart and rack up a fourth non-consecutive week at #1. This should just about push the album across the Platinum (1 million copies) mark. This week the London songstress’ record is at #3 on the Top 200.

Over in the UK, 21 has been the #1 album for 10 weeks in a row, and it’s either topped the charts or placed in the Top 5 in countries such as Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Denmark and Switzerland.

By this point last year, Lady Antbellum’s Need You Now had also logged four non-consecutive weeks atop the main album chart. The trio eventually went on to win five Grammy Awards in February.

Should Adele, who already has a pair of Grammys, be clearing space in her trophy case for even more awards?
