Jason Derulo To Return With New Single “Don’t Wanna Go Home”

Sampling late ’80s/early ’90s pop hits is all the rage with today’s artists (see Jennifer Lopez’s “On The Floor,” Chris Brown’s “She Ain’t You,” etc.), and Jason Derulo apparently isn’t one to let a hot trend pass him by. For “Don’t Wanna Go Home,” the “Whatcha Say” singer’s first single off his forthcoming LP Future History (out late summer), he and producers The Fliptones turned the 1993 Robin S smash “Show Me Love” for a little melodic inspiration. Hear a snippet of it below. Derulo’s “Don’t Wanna Go Home” can be heard at the beginning of this video, which shows the 21-year-old crooner in the studio working on new music. The single will be released on May 9.

Unfortunately, Jason seems to still think that annoying call-out of his own name at the beginning of each song is some sort of cute trademark.

“In the midst of all the turmoil in the world, I wanted to create a song that made you forget your problems,” Derulo says, via a press release. “So escape home, forget reality, and live it up!”

And, come on — you honestly didn’t think we were going to pass up an opportunity to post the original Robin S video, did you?

“Show Me Love” reached #5 on the Hot 100 in 1993.
