‘American Idol’: Jacob Lusk Says Goodbye, J.Lo & Lady Antebellum Perform

For the record, we absolutely loved Haley Reinhart’s two performances this week on American Idol, so thankfully she was spared being in the bottom (for once) on last night’s results show. But that meant someone from the other four remaining contestants had to go, and after his wobbly rendition of “No Air” earlier in the week, we weren’t surprised to find out it was Jacob.

Host Ryan Seacrest chose to split the Top 5 up on the stage without telling them who is in the bottom two. James Durbin was first sent to one side (and given his so-so performances on Wednesday, we thought he’d actually be in danger this week), while Lauren Alaina (who soared on Wednesday with Carrie Underwood’s “Flat On The Floor”) was relegated to the other.

Next, Jacob was instructed to join Lauren, while Hayley Reinhart took a seat with James. We finally realized what was up when country-crooning teen Scotty McCreery joined up with James and Hayley. Scotty, after all, can do no wrong it seems.

And so, while Lauren bawled her eyes out, gospel-leaning James was given his pink slip from Idol. This now leaves dial-happy voters with two country singers, a hard rocker and growling pop minx Haley. Who’s going to be left standing in the finale, readers?

As for the night’s performances, Jennifer Lopez shirked her judging duties for five minutes to join Pitbull for a performance of their current Top 10 smash “On The Floor.” (Wisely, she bucked an all-to-annoying pop diva trend and sang live). Hopefully this will encourage a few more people to buy her new album Love?

Also on the roster: Lady Antebellum, who offered up “Just A Kiss,” the first single from their upcoming third album.
