David Cook takes pranking to the next level in his video for “The Last Goodbye”, the lead single from his album This Loud Morning. In the clip, the Idol alum decides to trick his ex and all his friends into thinking he drowned in the ocean… for no apparent reason other than to surprise them when he reveals himself to be alive. Uh, pretty funny, right? Watch the Nigel Dick-directed video below and tell us if you’d pull the same prank on your friends.
David Cook – “The Last Goodbye”
Wow, pretty brutal, David. Although the pained-but-not-terribly-bothered expressions on your band members’ faces upon hearing of your alleged drowning raises more questions about what they really think of you:

Unlike your band, if we saw a newspaper headline declaring “David Cook, Feared Drowned”, we’d be sobbing all night long with a flood of sadness tears pouring out of our face. But that’s us.
David will appear on tonight’s American Idol episode, but he won’t be performing his single — instead, he’ll be singing his cover of Simple Minds’ “Don’t You Forget About Me”, which was used as the exit song from Season 10.

I think the guys were in shock, I would be snifff
Awesome video, hilarious at the end!
Kyle Fainted.. ha ha
We would surely be crying for more than one night if something happened to David, lol. But I just wanted to point out that he doesn’t purposefully “fake” his drowning. “In the clip, the Idol alum decides to trick his ex and all his friends into thinking he drowned in the ocean… for no apparent reason other than to surprise them when he reveals himself to be alive” The plot is that he’s so immersed in writing this song he has in his head, he’soblivious of everything else around him. And when he finally comes out of his hotel room, he genuinely doesn’t know what had been happening during his “disappearance” ;)
Hmm… I totally read the video as though he is doing all of that on purpose, as opposed to being absent-minded. Let’s just all be glad that David is not Feared Drowned in real life.
Funny!!! He didn’t deliberately want them to think he killed himself–duh!!!
I read somewhere that the concept was that it was a lot of jumping to conclusions that led to the girl on the beach and the band thinking David drowned (not David purposefully “faking his drowning). And that he was writing the lyrics to the song and not realizing that the title written on the notebook, found by the girl, was misinterpreted. Anyway, great storyline, funny ending, and David sounded and looked gorgeous!
If someone really wanted to fake his own death, would he return to the very same hotel where his bandmates were *and* hang out a “Do Not Disturb” sign, indicating that he’d been there recently?
I assume we’re supposed to think they were too panicked to think of knocking on his door, but there’s no indication that they actually tried it and didn’t find him there, which would go to an intentional prank.
I thought it was just mocking the idea that musicians get completely into their own heads and forget everything around them. Like their shoes.
It is all a misunderstanding…that is not his ex on the beach and he doesn’t intentionally fake his own death…he gets into writing the song and forgets his stuff..some assumptions are made…it is a very clever and hilarious video…
