Were you disappointed with “Run The World (Girls)” singer Beyonce after finding out her seemingly original, awe-inspiring multi-media performance at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards turned out to be lifted from a similar spectacle staged by Italian pop star Lorella Cuccarini last year? Well, relax, Bey fans — this diva has an answer for everything!
“My makeup artist showed me the performance of Lorella Cuccarini a year ago, and it inspired me so much,” Beyonce told AOL Music. “I then met with the talented people who worked on it. The technology and concept were so genius. Thank god for YouTube or I would have never been exposed to something so inspiring. I never worked so hard on anything in my life as that performance for the Billboard Awards.”
Yes, thank god for YouTube, which has also made it possible for many users to post side-by-side videos of both Beyonce and Lorella’s performances!
Oh, well — Bey gave a jaw-dropping performance, which has undoubtedly garnered more attention via the online Lorella Cuccarini furor than it normally would have. And now, with a few brief sentences, she’s brushed off any notion of controversy. Lest we forget, she’s a survivor and she’s going to keep on survivin’, Beyonce famously informed us 10 years ago.
New media artist/film direcotr Kenzo Digital, who Beyonce collaborated with for the Billboard presentation, explained the following to Yahoo’s The Amplifier blog:
“[The Cuccarini artists] are awesome and do incredible work as well, but there are a lot of different inspirations for where our piece came from. That’s the thing, it’s very simplistic. If anything, it’s a great example of how great of a performer Beyoncé is. It’s just a bare white screen. It’s a technique in video art since the ’80s in terms of frontal projection and interactive things. That’s really nothing new.”
Are you happy that Beyonce came clean about her “inspiration” for the Billboard Music Awards performance, or do you think she should have at least tried to come up with an original concept? Let us know below!

She should’ve told the people who worked on it to not put the same visuals from Lorella’s performance (The Wings, The Drums, The Army of ‘Beyonces’, The Combat Stick, Cracking the Wall, A Flock of Birds, & The Black Ball). Its totally unfair! Its not inspired when it doesn’t come off as your own esp. w/o acknowledging it (not until the controversy came up!).
Agree – it’s not fair. Lucky for her, this controversy is probably just a small, minor blip on the radar in the grand scheme of all things Beyonce. Still, it’s got to be quite embarrassing.
beYAWNcy should be known as a Iconic and Legendary Copy-Cat. As many of my friends and family have pointed out over the years is that beYAWNcy sits on youtube, just like the rest of American and when she sees something that she think she can get away with in the essence of nobody else seeing it, she steals the idea, the concept and proceeds in hopes that nobody knows where she stole the idea from. Case and point, she copied Single Ladies routine and for months she never told one interviewer that she was “inspired” by it, she thought she’d take the idea of Bob Fosse and pass it off as her own, until that one faithful day a couple of interviewers found out and called her on it, that’s when she was lost for words, then after the interviews, her publicist told her how to answer the question from now on, and now she uses the phrase “I was Inspired by.” She is notorious for stealing other artist ideas for videos, stealing song credits, perfume idea’s, etc., What I find ironic is, it’s become habit for her, she just doesn’t give a damn, and her rachet ass fans, especially her gay fans continue to argue that this trick is an icon or legend, she is not. Her daddy paid for those 6 grammys, he is an exec who knows people who know people and money talks and he’d do anything to pimp this girl out, make her look white to sell her soul to the industry to keep her relevant.People keep praising her work ethic, well every entertainer has to have great work ethics, look at Diana Ross, she’s 67 still touring sold out performances. Janet Jackson, she doesn’t have to tour another day in her life, but she’s touring at 45 years old, Rhianna, Chris Brown, Neyo, so what makes beYAWNcy so much better than the next artist who has excellent work ethics. If you ask me, she has people who cater to her because of her father and because of her name, all she has to do is step on stage and pole dance for you, hell Janet dance vigorously none stop on her Velvet Rope Tour, with Choreography for over 25+ Songs while changing clothes. Janet, Diana, Michael Jackson, those are Iconic Figures in American Music. beYAWNcy is nothing but a fad that is unoriginal, overrated and downright dispicable for accepting these awards/accolades and positive reviews for work she copied and was only “Inspired by” – Wow, what lame ass fans she has.
Seriously, if you don’t like Beyonce, then what’s the point in keeping up with EVERY little thing she does? It’s just entertainment. People take it WAAAY too seriously.
The same hater with his same usual paragraph about Bey all laced with bias opinions and unproven facts. Didn’t read it and on to the real talk.
Beyonce is a beast and all artists take their ques from somewhere. 95% of today’s movies are remakes just like the music production. The difference is putting your own stamp and twist on things and making it YOUR original as Beyonce the Queen always does.
It little bit alike but her copy Beyonce also..
Beyonce did her a favour, I mean the performance is off the hook. People really need to come down! So what she used the same effects, it’s Entertainment people! Haters stop hating and just suck it up, okay! You obviously care otherwise you wouldn’t have clicked on this link and took your time to actually write something! HA
Thank you! People pick on everything she does and fail to realize what you just said. Look at all the male R&B singers inspired by Michael Jackson, who himself was inspired by James Brown? Are they unoriginal? No! They just recognize something great when they see it. And as for this performance. It’s just an award show performance, and haters got mad when Beyonce KILLED it and decided to find anything they could to try and demolish her. Sad….
Every artist does it they get ideas and do the same
HOWEVER Beyonce does this & she does all these people
a favour. She makes it way better, she does it in her own style
so everyone needs to calm down. She’s the queen and everyone
looks up to her. LOVE YOU B x
The movie remakes are known and acknowledged as remakes. Those that are “inspired” by other movies at least have some originality to them.
She straight-up copied! And this isn’t the 1st time. She is so dead set against being upstaged she’ll do anything.
Seriously, B’s Performance has so much more energy. Yes its obvious her team was inspired by the other artist but I wouldn’t go as for to say she stole anything. I’d say she hasn’t done anything wrong. Ps front projection is NOTHING new its been around since the 80′s… I used it in highschool drama.
PS. EVERYONE IS INSPIRED BY FOSSE. Has anyone ever seen Chicago? HELLO!
PPS Someone call Martha Graham (the mother of modern dance) and her everyone stole her moves.
BEYONCE IS HORRIBLY SELFISH AND ARROGANT IN HER QUEST TO SELL SEX!!!
And she was allowed to buy a millennium award. The music industry is pure shame.
Even after lawsuits and call-outs she’s still stealing and accepting awards as if she deserves them, what a psychotic little fame whore. Every performer, but beyonce’s has spoken about their inspiration during the process, only beyonce waits until she’s caught to LIE and say she was inspired. Every major A-list artist has given credit when it is due, no one keeps their inspiration SECRET like beyonce does.
We’ve all heard A-list stars give credit go to The Jackson Family, The Beatles, Motown, Donna Summer, Bill Cosby,Elvis Presley, Rock and Roll Hall-of-fame-ers, Designers have credited CoCo Chanel, Andy Warhol, Picasso, Architects have credited Frank Lloyd Wright, EVERY ONE credits the Renaissance artist, Movie Makers “ALWAYS” credit the classic, thriller writers always credit Hitchcook.
ALL POPULAR ARTISTS have given credit to those who inspire them and to those they copy, it’s NEVER been kept secret.
Beyonce ALWAYS keeps it a secret or credits her mother for playing it when she was a kid
Every artist COPIES familiar themes that the public can easily recognize. They remake POPULAR things we know and love. They don’t scam us, they just disappoint us with poor remakes.
Beyonce SCAMS US
she copies foreign and unpopular concepts that’s not familiar in the United States because she’s hoping to get away with passing it off as original to her.
Her inspiration excuse is LIES, she’s stealing concepts from overseas and from un-familiar artist because she wants to claim the originality of them in the States.
DON’T COMPARE HER TO ARTISTS WHO COPY BUT TRUTHFULLY ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR INSPIRATION BEFOREHAND, EVERYONE MAY BE INSPIRED BY SOMEONE ELSE, BUT BEYONCE IS THE ONLY ONE LYING ABOUT IT AND KEEPING IT A DARK SECRET WITH NO CREDIT GIVEN
No wonder she’s friends with Lady Gaga – copycats!
Well stated. Let the church say AMEN!!
Lol, I don’t really care if she copied it or not.
I’m more concerned about the possible Mason/Illuminati imagery in the performance.
The checkerboarded lion and snake, her dancing in a black and white triangle, the fact that she emphasizes “power” and “run the world” and finally,
the green money pyramid image behind her at one point in the performance.
I wouldn’tve thought it wasn’t illuminati if that fricking money pyramid symbol hadn’t been there.
What do you guys think?
And the Baphomet at :36-:37…
Copying is copying. No hate, it is what it is. And if nothing was said for a long time, I could see eventually Beyonce fans doing revisionist history and claim Lorella Cuccerini was the one that copied.
The biggest mistake was, she used TOO MUCH of the previous work. Sure they modified the wings and some shapes, but then it goes on and on with too many similarities. Some people say well Bey’s had color. Big deal. If somebody ripped off the “single ladies” video but did it in color, you’d say its okay? Stop the childish excuses Bey heads. Can more reasonable people enter the conversation.
What happened was a moral lapse. They knew somebody else did it. They didn’t even bother to modify it enough to be considered its own original piece. And the true credit to who’s idea it was didn’t come out until, after the original performance was made known to the public. So if nothing was said, the audiences would have sworn it was an original piece. And you’d all be none the wiser to the real truth.
Cuccarini did what people are told to do in the corporate rat race. Take credit for your work or somebody else will. She did not do it out of hate. She told the truth. And the sooner she did it helps because it won’t be a 10 year mistruth like Arnold butt is dealing with.
PS: Beyonce gets props for quickly admitting the inspiration. This will soon pass. But y’know what people say. Karma is a bitch.
Considering the whole beat is stolen, it fits the whole biting concept.
Nothing is original in POP music.
please.
man these site is such a Debbie Downer sometimes. Great performance Beyonce gave and its also cool to see where she got it from. If I had to do all that moving I’d pass out a minute into it.
If it weren’t by the time gap between the performances, i would say that Beyonce’s performance looks like the original one, and Lorella’s like the inspired one. Seriously, i mean, Beyonce did used Lorella’s concept as inspiration, but in quality and showcase terms: Beyonce rocked that stage BIG TIME! she’s an amazing artist and performer, and no one, hater or whatever, is gonna take that away from her :D

SHAME ON BEYONCE..
You guys are truly over doing. No great idea just pops out of the sky. Every great idea is triggered by someone elses great idea or actions. Beyonce is incredible. Her performances are incredible. If you want to talk about ORGINALITY, let’s talk about how great she was being the FIRST person ever on th BET Awards show to do an international performance during the awards shows 2011. People are so quick to be critical of someone elses hrd work. Appreciate what the girl is doing because what she is doing is slowly inspiring the next “Micheal Jackson”, the next “Beyonce”, the next big thing to come. She is completely inspiring music. Love the girl for that, and support her.
yeah, what was that all about? I’ve seen a pic of her doing the inverted triangle in ‘private’ (whatever that means by now) and the 666 sign in the videophone video, when shes whoring out as that 50s pin up.
