Beyonce killed it not once but twice on American Idol last night, and if you had any doubts that Bey’s vocal theatrics are somehow manufactured in a studio or aided by fancy theatrics, Jay-Z quells all doubts. Hova secretly taped his missus rehearsing her new ballad “1 +1″ backstage at the Nokia Theater before performing during the Idol finale, and it’s a dress rehearsal worth watching.
“Sometimes you need perspective,” wrote Jay-Z on his blog underneath the video of Bey rehearsing. “You’ve been right in front of greatness so often that you need to step back and see it again for the first time. This is the dressing room rehearsal for American Idol. NO MICROPHONE. No effects.”
Still not convinced.
Beyonce is the truth. Best live female performer and one of the best vocalists of this generation. Only female artist I financially support.

She sounds great, but did she just say she wants to die by him? Meaning she wants him to kill her? Why are her lyrics getting even more stupid, and where is that thing in her brain that reads something and decides whether or not she should include it in a song? I can’t believe a room full of grown ups heard a line like “1..+1…is 2!!” and did not burst out laughing.
If anything American Idol has shown us that there are *plenty* of people who can, really really sing, without microphones or effects. Beyonce is not the only one, just a very well-manufactured (with real and fake bits) vessel of commercialism.
