Coachella To Expand To Two Weekends In April

Were you one of the unlucky music fans who didn’t score a Coachella ticket last year? You were one of many, since the annual desert-set fest sold out in a record-breaking six days. Perhaps next year you’ll have a bit more luck scoring tix, as Coachella 2012 will be held over two separate weekends in April.

Today it was announced that the festival, which takes place in Indio, California, will be held April 13-15 and 20-22, 2012.

“Festival organizers will attempt to produce two identical festival weekends–same lineup, same art, same place, different people,” states a message on the fest’s official site. “We know many of you were unable to attend this year’s festival because passes sold out much sooner than anticipated. We were truly surprised by the overwhelming response and remain honored by your passion and enthusiasm. We also know some of you purchased through non legitimate sources and were inconvenienced, gouged or totally scammed. We hope that these changes will give everyone the opportunity to purchase directly from Coachella.com.”

Being that most bands and artists’ schedules are already so tight, we find it hard to believe that they could convince the headliners, as well as the other acts on the lineup, to stay put in Southern California for two weekends in a row. So we won’t be surprised if there’s some tweaks to the lineup from one weekend to the next. But hey, at least hotels in the Coachella Valley are gonna make some major bank twice in April!

Advance sale of weekend passes ($269 plus fees) start this Friday, June 3 and end the following Friday.
