We’ve been chomping at the whammy bar to hear Kid Cudi and Dot Da Genius’ collaborative Wizard/2 Be Continuum jam “Perfect Is The Word” ever since Cudder first teased it during a live Ustream chat way back in January — that wicked little torturer! Thankfully Mr. Mescudi more than made up for the long wait by offering up the rock tune for free, via a download link he tweeted out late last night. Hear it below! After offering up “Perfect Is The Word,” Zink cover guy Cudi tweeted, “So much love out there, thank you for all the supportive comments. i love you all, no bullshit. i work really hard on all i do, thank you!”

Of course, not everyone was impressed. An hour later he added, “If you want my old shit, buy my old albums….Im moving forward, all w/ me LETS GO! Life is about evolving, which is why im successful. P&L”

So what does “Perfect…” sound like? Well, as promised, it’s heavy on the guitars and pretty much devoid of rapping. The song kicks off with a slow, deliberate drum beat and fuzzy guitar riffs. Then in comes Cudi, singing about perfection and safety being the main things that lost souls want.

With hip hop being such a crowded genre, you can’t blame Cudder for wanting to try something different. If anything, it will be interesting to see if he can make waves in the also heavily-populated world of alt rock. We certainly applaud him for taking a completely unexpected path with his new material.

What do you think of “Perfect Is The Word”? Is it “wicked awesome,” or should Kid Cudi stick to rapping?
