After making a loud and proud debut on Broadway, Billie Joe Armstrong is hitting the big screen. The Green Day frontman will play the role of St. Jimmy in the upcoming American Idiot movie. The film, produced by Tom Hanks’ PlayTone Productions, will be directed by Michael Mayer (who helmed the stage show) and is set for a 2013 release. Though we had been campaigning for a certain over-the-top pop star to nab the role, we can’t say we’re disappointed with this news. [Via THR]
Why the hell would you want Lambert for the role? That would just be awful. Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the music, and either him or Tony Vincent are the perfect choices. Either way works, just as long as they don’t fill the movie with pop stars.
