Kanye West’s “Mama’s Boyfriend” Finally Surfaces

Remember when Kanye West went deep into the heart of the social network and hung with the staff at Facebook headquarters last summer? That was the first time we heard his unreleased tune “Mama’s Boyfriend,” albeit in a cappella form. A couple weeks later he performed the song again in New York at The Box. In the end, “Mama’s Boyfriend” never saw the light of day on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Fast forward to nearly a year later, and the studio version has finally found its way online. Hear it below! We’ll just take the words out of ‘Ye’s mouth from his appearance at Facebook’s offices when describing the song about — you guessed it — a young kid’s jealousy over his mother’s boyfriend: “It took me 33 years of my life to write it, and it means a lot to me. There’s a lot of use of the ‘N’ word, but I’m allowed to use it.”

Now this is how we like our Kanye — lighthearted but intelligent, rapping about a universal theme, employing a killer sample to buoy his rhymes and crafting a jam that you just know would sound like a million bucks on the radio.

And given that Song Of The Summer season has kicked off, it’s all the more of a downer that there doesn’t appear to be any plan to properly release “Mama’s Boyfriend.”

Rethink this one, Kanye. We think mama would approve.

Let us know below if you’re digging “Mama’s Boyfriend,” or if you feel West was right to leave it off his most recent album.
