But it’s a new year, a new summer and a whole new field of hits is ripe for the picking. We’ve rounded up eight Song Of Summer 2011 contenders for you. SONG OF SUMMER 2011: THE CONTENDERS
“Give Me Everything” — Pitbull feat. Ne-Yo, AfroJack & Nayer
THE PLAYERS: Mr. Worldwide told us that he originally wanted Shakira to sing on this, his very first chart-topping single, “but she was going through some personal things.” Hence Miami songstress Nayer, who’s signed to Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Inc., getting her big break on “Give Me Everything.” The song also gives Ne-Yo a much-needed hit after the disappointing performance of Libra Scale.

“I Wanna Go” — Britney Spears
THE PLAYERS: Hit-wise, Brit’s been having a full-on chart Renaissance after teaming back up with her original producer Max Martin. And the video for “I Wanna Go” proves the Femme Fatale still has a sly sense of humor after all these years.
MOST INFECTIOUS LINE: “Shame on me (shame on me) to need release (to need release) uncontrollably (uncontrollably-lably-lably-lably).”

“I’m On One” — DJ Khaled feat. Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne
THE PLAYERS: This meeting of the Young Money/Maybach Music minds has become the hip hop anthem of the first half of ’11. Naturally we had to include it here.

“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” — Katy Perry
THE PLAYERS: Dr. Luke and Max Martin crafted many hits on Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream LP, but the powers that be saved the best for last as far as a single release. An epic (and hilarious) music video, a self-deprecating pop star, a killer sax solo and one hell of a hook — what more do you want when you’re basking in the summer sun?

“Party Rock Anthem” — LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoodRock

“Rolling In The Deep” — Adele
THE PLAYERS: We originally had this pegged as the song of the winter. And then the spring. And then after it’s seven week stay atop the Hot 100, we had to concede that “Rolling In The Deep” might just be song of, like, the century.

“Super Bass” — Nicki Minaj
THE PLAYERS: Originally only a bonus track on the deluxe edition of Minaj’s debut album Pink Friday, “Super Bass” has gone on to become her first bona fide Top 10 single as a main artist. Another jam aided by a vivid, high energy video.
MOST INFECTIOUS LINE: “Can’t you hear that boom-ba-doom-boom, boom-ba-doom-boom bass?”

“The Edge Of Glory” — Lady Gaga
THE PLAYERS: Mother Monster raises a glass and pounds the synths in honor of her grandfather. The song took on unexpected significance when the music video premiered mere days before sax player Clarence Clemons, who’s featured here, died.

Most people will remember for being an icon or because of her meltdown and well, you know how it went. I really do like Britney Spears and I do think that I wanna Go is better than Edge of Glory which is an amazing song.
