Right before the American Idols Live! tour kicks off in Utah tomorrow night comes the news that Season 10’s Pia Toscano has officially signed to Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records. The ninth-place finisher will release her debut album sometime this year, and her first single “This Time” will drop on July 12.

“This Time” is described as being “an acoustic guitar and beat-driven track”. It was produced by studio ace (and Digging profile subject) Brian Kennedy (who recently worked with Joe Jonas on his lead single “See No More”), and co-written by Ester Dean, who also shared songwriting credit on Idol champ Scotty McCreery’s coronation song “I Love You This Big”, in addition to hits for Rihanna, Beyonce and Katy Perry. It was previously reported that Pia has been also working with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins on a few tracks. Yeah, we’re excited for this one.
