Katy Perry has already shaken her tail feathers as a “Peacock” on her California Dreams tour, and now she’s taking on an entirely different sort of animal-inspired backside: that of a fish. Which would be great and all, if Lady Gaga hadn’t just announced that her long-gestating desire to be a music video mermaid wasn’t so dead in the water after all. Last night the patriotic planker tweeted a photo of herself in lavender-tressed Little Mermaid garb (planking again), ill-timed since it was right after we learned Gaga plans to go legless in the vid for her unnamed next single. The newly ginger songbird already got a bit of flack from those who thought her out-there “E.T.” video was a little too close to Gaga’s “Born This Way” space oddity. This certainly won’t help, considering Gaga’s mermaid idea was made public two months ago (though apparently scrapped in favor of a more land-locked “Edge Of Glory” visual, until recently). But let’s not jump to the conclusion that Katy Perry is an idea-thieving sea witch just yet.
We’re not sure if Katy’s pic is from the set of a music video, a photo shoot, or what, and probably it was planned long before Gaga resurfaced with her deep-sea diva plans. Most likely, it’s just an unfortunate coincidence, which happens in pop culture sometimes. Surely there are worse things than an overabundance of pop stars with fish tails, right?
Just keep swimming, ladies. And don’t make us bring in Hans Christian Anderson to settle this.
Who cares? I mean I personally can’t stand Katy Perry but everyone is always looking to point the finger at someone about something..and you know what?? all this crap has been done before and it will always get recycled by someone else 10 years later…guess WHAT?! 10 -20 years from now when there is a “new” pop artist, their fans are gonna say how original, new, and fresh they are and that Gaga and Katy are old hags as they do to Madonna now and you’ll be saying “what do those young kids know”.. just you wait! :)

Amen to that! I love Gaga and really don’t care for Katy Perry, but these types of copycat accusations are so ridiculous and petty. I really wish Laurieann Gibson hadn’t already taken a jab at Katy for this. I love her but I’m sick of her gaffes that draw Gaga’s name into petty arguments.
Katy didn’t copy anything from the Born This Way video… What do you expect from a song called E.T.? Anyway, I don’t know whether or not this is a coincidence or just plain copying but things like this have happened in the past between Katy and Gaga, so I’ll just let it blow over…
Amen to what Nyan said! I still don’t understand why people complain that Katy’s ET was a rip off of Gaga’s Born This Way. Both took place in space. That was the only similarity! To be honest I’m way more excited for Katy as a mermaid than Gaga. Gaga’s look has grown a little too bizarre for my taste….it’s not innovative anymore . . ..it’s just weird and completely unnatractive. I’m still 100% entertained by Katy’s recent music videos, especially Last Friday Night! Gaga on the other hand . . well, the last few videos have been dissapointments in my book. Since when has anyone wanted to see Gaga give birth to weird space creatures and dance in a tub with Judas, Christ, and a 6 pack of beer?

Totally agreed. Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ is extremely shallow in comparison to Gaga’s ‘Born This Way.’ Gaga’s music has a real purpose which I think is wonderful and most definately defines her as a true musician. I’m just personally not a fan of her recent disturbing, bizarre, over the the top, and controversial music videos and image. She changes her look almost daily from weird…to more weird and more unnatractive! The blue armpit hair was the final draw for me! Yikes!!
Katy does everything in a hilariously cute tongue in cheek manner . . . I think her take on a mermaid will be thoroughly entertaining! Gaga’s, however, will most likely disturb me.

i normally hate to be included in ‘copycat scandals’ but this is just too obvious. common Katy, do a little research at least before accepting your management’s video treatment ideas. Gaga has been bringing up Mermaid forEVER on her twitter and in interviews and performances. As for her ET video-that was a coincidence. but THIS…..isnt.

Well, I basically don’t think Katy copied Gaga in the E.T music video, but its just too obvious that Katy copied the mermaid idea,she had been copied everything from Gaga since last year, her swimsuit costume, her idea trying to chg her song into uncomfortable acoustic version during performance lyk Gaga which was way too AMAZING!, the Katy Beth Perry,sex scene in music video, EVERYTHING! And always trying to act wild lyk Gaga, (And the most important: SHE DIDN’T DID THOSE BEFORE GAGA APPEARED!)
