Lady Gaga has Little Monsters all over the world – even in Springfield. The “You And I” singer will reportedly guest star on an upcoming episode of The Simpsons for the show’s 23rd season. According to Yeardley Smith (who voices Lisa), “She’s playing herself, and [The Simpsons writers] describe her as the happiest, most optimistic person in the world. She comes to Springfield to try to cheer up Lisa, but she can’t.” We’re already dying to know how many outfits the animators will be forced to create for cartoon Gaga’s inevitable costume changes. More details (and a pic!) below.

The singer will guest in an episode called “Lisa Goes Gaga”, which will air in the Spring. In the episode, Mama Monster visits Springfield after learning that its residents have low self-esteem, and “winds up trying to cheer up a dejected Lisa through the power of speech, song, and a flash mob.”

“I make music, but I don’t do voice-overs every day of the week, and their characters are so awesomely convincing and sincere and wild and funny, I had to remind myself constantly of the sincerity of the humor,” Gaga tells Entertainment Weekly. “That’s what I was trying to focus on, not putting on a character too much and really being as sincere as I could with the lines.”

Animated Gaga is sure to have several wardrobe changes, and, bizarrely, ends up kissing Marge. “I play a little bit of a slut,” she says. “The apple doesn’t fall far from my artistic tree.”

The best quote from EW’s story, though, comes right from exec producer Al Jean: “For the first time in the history of The Simpsons, we are honored to have on a show business legend who is younger than our show.”

(Actually, Al, Gaga is 25, and your show will be in its 23rd season, but it’s funny nonetheless.)
