With the American Idols Live! Tour now in the final stretch and his album Clear As Day out on October 4 (check out the cover art above!), Scotty McCreery served a new single to radio today. Head below to listen to the Season 10 American Idol winner croon about “The Trouble With Girls” with his trademark North Carolina twang.

“The trouble with girls is they’re so dang pretty, everything about ’em does something’ to ya, and I guess that’s the way it’s supposed to be,” the 17-year-old sings here, clearly giving William Shakespeare a run for the money.

Between this and McCreery’s Idol coronation song “I Love You This Big,” it’s becoming obvious that those in charge of his career are steering him down the tried and true country ballad path (rather than the country-pop path of, say, Lady Antebellum and Taylor Swift). And, given the lackluster performance of previous AI winner Lee DeWyze’s music, it’s probably best to play it safe this time around.

Still, we can’t help wishing Scotty’s strong voice was matched up with music a bit more upbeat than this. Guess there’s still a whole album’s worth of music lying in wait.
