A smooth, daydream-inducing track by Kendrick Lamar called “My Mind Drifts” has surfaced thanks to a mixtape by Hot 97 host Peter Rosenberg and Popchips. “With so much BS out there — sometimes it’s hard to find what’s really poppin. Well I did the work for you,” Rosenberg wrote while introducing the What’s Poppin Vol. 1 collection. Head below to hear the rapper J. Cole told us is “a breath of fresh air.” “As my mind drift and then split like the middle of a spliff, I begin to catapult off the cliff of the unknown,” Lamar waxes on “My Mind Drifts, before adding, “LMFAO, I hate y’all but I spread love like mayo.”

We’ll leave it up to you to determine whether or not he’s referring to the “Party Rock Anthem” hit-makers here or simply employing a common internet slang term.

At the end of 2010, J. Cole heaped much love on Kendrick’s brand of “indie hip hop” in our Best Music 2010 feature. Are you feeling the same enthusiasm for Compton MC after hearing his short track “My Mind Drifts”?
