Adele’s “Someone Like You” Video Puts Heartbreak In Black And White

September 29th, 2011 // 4 Comments

Adele’s “Someone Like You” turned out to be achingly beautiful for reasons very different than 21‘s first smash, “Rolling In Deep”: it’s a bare piano ballad that puts her rafter-reaching heartbreak front and center. The long-awaited video is just as simple: Adele wanders the streets of Paris in the lonely wee hours, and her sense of loss is displayed in gritty black and white. Our readers felt “Rolling In The Deep” deserved to win MTV’s prize for Video Of The Year. Will “Someone Like You” (directed by Jake Nava) prove to be as compelling? Watch below.

Nava said in unveiling the video preview that “shooting early in the morning allows you to focus on Adele in this lonely and emotional space.” But did it match up with the song? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter or in the comments below.

This video is the best. I actually cried it was so beautiful. Her voice missed with the message of the song is amazing.

They had to fly to Paris to shoot this? This could have been filmed anywhere to the same effect…

the black and white scheme did bring in a sense of sadness…but her just walking down the street was boring.
    .
some flashbacks of her and him smiling would have added a poignant point that this just seems to be missing though I will admit at the end with him walking away and her watching him through the window did make me start to tear up. best part of the video
    .
shes not the first to be walked away from and she certaintly won’t be the last

did anyone else how much adele (or her “creativity people”) loves one-shots? her debut single hometown glory has the same structure. anyway, she surely knows how music videos work. kuods! so far all her videos are brilliant, and this one will be a classic.
