Coldplay & Rihanna “Princess Of China”: Listen

Coldplay and Rihanna’s Mylo Xyloto collaboration “Princess Of China” has surfaced, and it’s a synth-laden affair that boasts a typical Coldplay-esque moody atmosphere and an equally familiar refrain of “wooaaah-oh-oh-ohs”. And somehow the marriage of Chris Martin and RiRi’s vocals is a solid one. (Admittedly, we weren’t sure what to expect.) Head below to hear the UK band find love in a hopeless place with the Barbadian pop queen. Last month Martin spoke about “Princess Of China”:

“The album is designed as a whole piece. It has boy and girl lead characters and top of our list for the girl part was Rihanna, but it took a while to pluck up the courage to ask her… She has such an amazing voice and it’s so different to mine. When the vocal happened I thought ‘Wow, you sound different’ but I think that’s also because she was singing a different song to what we are used to hearing from her and it is written by a bloke from Devon.”

Mylo Xyloto will be released in one week, on October 24. Thoughts on the unlikely pairing of Coldplay and Rihanna?
