We’ve delighted in the best-of-2011 picks from Patrick Stump and Ellie Goulding, and now we’re especially thrilled to share a guest contribution from the enigmatic, captivating singer-songwriter Skylar Grey. The “Invisible” woman has been anything but this year: she set up her debut album, (also called Invisible), went on tour with Bruno Mars, and lit up Lollapalooza twice — in her own set, and in a riveting Eminem performance. This year, she sang or wrote some of our favorite hooks, but Grey found herself hooked by an indie darling. Watch Skylar reveal her favorite album of the year below.

The “Dance Without You” artist chose Midwest indie group Bon Iver’s self-titled LP, though Skylar isn’t the only one praising Bon Iver’s tunes — the band (fronted by Justin Vernon) is up for four Grammy Awards, including Song and Record Of The Year for “Holocene”.

“I was blown away because of the way that it sounded,” Grey tell us. “Sonically, it had this warm, lush, gorgeous thing happening that was super refreshing because I hadn’t heard anything like that in a long time. Maybe ever.”

Grey fawns over Vernon’s lyrics, and loves how he uses his vocals almost like another instrument. “He definitely has my vote at the Grammys.”
