Katy Perry Named MTV’s Artist Of The Year

Katy Perry has also been named Artist Of The Year by MTV, who summarizes the busy, busy year she’s had: in 2011, Katy released hit single after hit single, scored Grammy nominations, won Video Of The Year at the VMAs, hosted Saturday Night Live, lent her voice talents to The Smurfs, was fascinated over by Barbra Walters, embarked on a successful, critically-praised world tour, debuted her second fragrance, became a Barbie doll and provided us with a rainbow of hairstyles to fawn over. Watch Katy accept her honor below.

After becoming one of only six artists to land six Top 10 hits from the same album, Katy Perry continues to break her own records. “The One That Got Away” is now Perry’s sixth Teenage Dream single to land in the Top 5 on Billboard‘s Hot 100. The pop star is currently tied with Janet Jackson and George Michael, both who claim the same honor. (Think either of those artists lowered the price of their singles to 69 cents or released unnecessary remixes?)

Teenage Dream is out now on Capitol. Purchase it at eMusic.
