Last week, Lady Gaga’s “Marry The Night” creaked up three positions to #29 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. To date, Mother Monster’s nocturnal tune is her 12th single, and, so far, it’s looking to be her first to miss the Top 10 altogether. So how did that Marry The Night Download Day Facebook campaign turn out, then? The date Little Monsters were to mobilize was yesterday (December 20).
“On Tuesday, December 20th (4 p.m. local time) fans around the world will download the song on their country’s iTunes,” reads the Facebook page for the fan movement. “If you already have a copy, you can gift another one to your friend.” Alas, only 7,154 Facebook users “liked” the campaign’s page — not really enough to make much of a blip on the radar.
We pretty much kept our hawk eyes trained on iTunes’ Top Songs chart throughout the day yesterday, and the highest we saw “Marry The Night” climb to was #39. As of today, the tune has dropped back down to #42.
Allow us to quote from Gaga fan Cris Sanchez, who wrote the following on the Facebook wall of the campaign today: “guess Marry The Night is going to be Gaga’s first single to not make the top 10….”
Well, that happens for bad singles choices. But Gaga is not a (fast-food) singles artist, she already has one of the best selling albums of the year; if Interscope had wanted it to be a success, they would have done something (like reducing the price of the song…).

She made 90 million dollars last year, I am sure she cares about if she makes a number 1, and Born This Way was number 1 for seven weeks so she did have ahit single off the album. I personally wouldn’t waste money on an album and a single and that is the case with a lot of people, she is selling more albums than singles which is a sign of a more successful artist.
I just don;t understand. If you hate a person so much why comment. There’s a huge difference between disliking someone and just being a hater. BTW isn’t as big or as good as her previous albums but I wouldn’t call 4 top ten hits, 1 no.1 song, and selling 2 million in the u.s.a. and 5 million worldwide a flop. I can always defend lady gaga even if i’m not really a big fan. As a causal fan I realize has mad talent and just needs to get rid of all the drama that comes with crazy clothing. She is still amazing with just a piano. Unlike Katy Perry, Rihanna. Lady gaga sells albums, She has just passed the 2 million mark in the u.s.a. Rihanna and Katy Perry can’t sell albums to save their lives. I can admit her singles this era are not as good as the previous era. Uhh, there is a huge difference. Gaga has sold over 8 million records while Rihanna hasn’t cleared a million. People who buy the album are not going to buy the single if they already have it. The only person doing good on bOth fronts is Adele but Gaga is not doing that bad.

Gaga’s worst enemy right now is her own success. Too many people already have her album to buy her singles. ‘Born This Way’ was an album meant for her fans (a tribute to her success), not mainstream as Gaga said herself. Also she is in the critic’s spotlight due to her unprecedented rise to the world’s biggest pop star after just one album. Because her expectations from others is so insurmountable the moment she does anything it is dissected, examined, compared to anything and everything. Despite being her own artist, nothing short of her innovating a new genre of pop she is a copy. Look at madonna, cher, michael jackson, christina, andy warhol, ke$ha, bowie, and the list goes on an on. You really have to ask yourself how she is all these artist when they are themselves hardly ever compared to each other.
This hype and over-saturation is turning a lot of people, specifically younger people who buy the most singles and call in to radio, off to Lady Gaga or increasing the trollercoaster towards her whether her music is deserving of it or not. Combine that with the fact most of Born This Way has an 80s vibe, which again the younger audience/mainstream hates, and you can see why her singles in the ‘Born This Way’ era isn’t number 1 material. I’m amazed so many got within the top 10 as it is. Marry The Night itself is an amazing song but it has that 80s vibe. I will say had Interscope Records set up her singles choice and releases order a bit better, not made the ‘Judas’ mistake, she would have been a lot better off on the hot 100. If you’re the type of person that thinks hot 100 really means anything to an artist success.

Wow, that isn’t even the full story. Amazon sold her album for 99 cents, first of all, which accounted for 40% of first week sales. Secondly, while she sold 1.1 million copies her first week, which is certainly nothing to sneeze at, a lot of those were 99 cent copies, like I said, and the fact that she’s stalled around the 2 million mark in America is not impressive given her stature. Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream didn’t have the first week of monster sales, (about 1,000,000 fewer), but she’s at the same mark that Gaga is. And, of course, Adele’s 21 has been destroying all other albums this year

Also some of you are comparing gaga’s seven month album sells with only one # 1 hit to katy perry album that has 5 no.1 hits and and is nearly a year and a half old and still hasn’t reached 2 million yet in the u.s.a. also she isn’t a worldwide seller. Same for rihanna she hasn’t reached 2 million with a million hits on one album. She has at least sold worldwide. Lady gaga has become an album seller. I think its unfair to heavily criticise Lady Gaga. ITs the same with Adam Lambert, okay he is not as big as lady gaga, but he is just as much of a star, the problem is his lack of exposure and promotion. Maybe this is what people have a problem with, over exposing lady gaga. But she is very very talented, yes you could argue she is a victim of her own success, she set such a standard with her infamous fame album, its hard to compare to that. Adam Lambert is like the male gaga, and with his album Trespassing imo he is going to be as big as gaga. Not everyone likes the sound, but their are going to be various sounds on the album, I bring adam lambert up and trespassing because just like gaga adam provokes emotions and reactions from all walks of life. Just give gaga a break, I do beleive she obsesses with her work to the point she is on the edge, adam is like that but he is enjoying life, and I think gaga needs to start doing the same, and take a break before she releases her next one.

You cant say that both ladies sold the same amount and then say only Lady sells albums- wouldn’t that make Katy stronger (commercially anyway) She has sold the same amount of albums and a whole lot more singles. I think little Monsters need to take a shot of reality.
Lady Gaga has peaked early and you know what..it is okay..she really isn’t that good, never was…lets move on to the next big thing.
Lady is not original – she is a fraud, but hey she made a few bucks along the way- I really wish she stayed away from the sex and sacrilegious thing- that was a turn off and displayed her lack of depth and more importantly the anti-God, immoral thing for me is deplorable and I think many saw that as well.

What most of you neglect to realize is that the amazon 99 cent special greatly impacted her number of album sales yes-but the album still would have sold a lot without it. It all balances out in the long run. Rihanna and Katy didn’t sell their album for 99 cents, and that’s why they have such successful single sales. If Gaga didnt sell her album for 99 cents then she would have amazing single sales.Oh and how many remixes of TGIF did Katy release? Seriously. Lady Gaga doesnt even need to sell her album to make it. Her concert is the best I have ever been to. I saw Rihanna and she sucked plus she doesnt write like ANY of her music. Nicki can’t sing live. Katy is so artificial now,and her songs are from the view of a depressed 15 year old it seems. Adele’s amazing hit Rolling in the Deep was written by some dude that had a one hit wonder back in the day. Lady Gaga writes all of her music, she is amazing at the piano, she can dance, and although Marry the Night didnt do well on the charts *with the exception of the dance charts* the video is amazing and will moat likely spark the interest of someone who wants to get her into acting. Lady Gaga has collaberated with the best artists of all time and not to mention her influence on the LGBT community. As long as there is gay there is Gaga. You’ll all be hating on her and she’ll say “It’s fine” as she laughs straight to the bank. I see success for Gaga, she has and will go down in history.
