Beyonce Welcomes Baby Girl (Finally)

After several false alarms and rumors, Beyonce gave birth Saturday night to a baby girl, reportedly named Blue Ivy Carter, according to several news sources including E!. The child of destiny was born at New York City’s Lennox Hospital, where the superstar and recent Glamour cover girl had checked under the name Ingrid Jackson, news sources said. (Sasha Fierce would’ve been too obvious, really). Beyonce and Jay-Z reportedly rented out the hospital’s entire floor for $1.3 million. Details below.

News of the birth spread quickly among Beyonce and Jay-Z’s circle, with Rihanna tweeting “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih”.

It had been clear for hours that the loooong-awaited moment had come, including the sight of security guards patrolling the hospital area on Saturday night, according to the New York Daily News. Lennox Hill also blacked out its surveillance cameras and windows in preparation for her delivery, ABC News reports. (No food trucks in sight, though: Beyonce has maintained a strictly healthy diet in advance of giving birth.)

The birth of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s first child comes less than a week after the most recent burst of rumors that she had given birth. (That round was shut down when her sister Solange Knowles tweeted on New Year’s Day that Beyonce was “THE cutest pregnant woman ever!”). Before that, there was the rumor that the whole pregnant was in fact a sham — a notion that was revealed as ridiculous by Beyonce’s video greeting from the set of “Countdown”. Now it appears we’ll finally have pretty damn irrefutable evidence that she’s had a bun in the oven ever since she announced it at the MTV Video Music Awards last August.

The Grammys may have snubbed her, but she now has something much more important to celebrate. (Many thanks to everyone who made suggestions via #beyoncebabynames
