From her Twitter outbursts defending her music (and potential collaboration partners) to making controversial music videos that make certain countries blush, Rihanna is one tough chick. But the pop singer shows us her fun-loving, playful and, yes, softer, side in the new documentary, The Road to Talk the Talk. The 39-minute film gives fans a chance to see what happened during the making of Rihanna’s sixth album. Watch after the jump.

The documentary kicks off on the road during Rihanna’s Loud tour in the US and follows her to Barbados where we see her having fun with family and friends while she worked on Talk the Talk. We even get to hear from a few people who grew up with Rihanna and knew her as Robyn, the girl who always sang. In addition to photo shoots and moments in the studio, we also get a glimpse of Rihanna chilling at the beach, running around London with BFF Katy Perry and even geting behind the camera to show us her filming skills.
