Nicki Minaj Discusses The “No Boundaries” Vibe Of ‘Roman Reloaded’ With ‘Vibe’

We’ve always liked Nicki Minaj for being, shall we say, “a little out there.” And Barbz certainly isn’t holding back any of that colorful insanity as she prepares to unleash her sophomore LP — like channeling Linda Blair at the Grammys, for example, or the fact that she looks like a Barbie doll that a young toddler chewed on and dipped into a bunch of paint in her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded cover art. But what will the album itself sound like? Already we’ve heard a smattering of tracks, many with very different vibes that haven’t yet given us a cohesive idea of what to expect. Find out what she told Vibe about Roman Reloaded‘s sound below. (No word yet on what’s up with her boob, though.)

“It’s going in a very free, exhilarating direction in terms of me owning who I am and me enjoying the process of making music,” Minaj told Vibe. “I think that when you get the album you’ll feel as if I had absolutely no boundaries. That’s probably the best way to explain it so that you understand. The album just has no boundaries. The album cannot be boxed in.”

When questioned further about the balance of rap to pop, Nicki responded even more vaguely: “You know what, I cannot break my album down into how the normal person like yourself would break an album down and say, well this is rap and this is pop. There is no rap or pop for me. It’s Nicki Minaj. It’s one collective body of amazing work. You’ll feel it. I don’t like the labels because sometimes just by one word or one label, a person can take that the wrong way and apply a negative spin to that. So I don’t give my music labels.”

Well, that explains why so many of the tracks we’ve heard sound so different! Which track is getting you the most amped up for the album’s April release? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter or in the comments.
