While John Mayer‘s issues with granuloma in his throat have sidelined his planned tour in support of upcoming album Born and Raised (out May 22), the Grammy winner is still keeping his fingers active, at least. Recently he offered up a cover of Lana Del Rey‘s “Video Games” to fans. As you might expect, however, there are no vocals on the track — just some haunting guitar licks.”Video Games (dub solo electric) w/Binson Echorec,” Mayer wrote when posting his rendition of Lana’s tune his Tumblr blog. Stripped of all the grandiose synths and strings from the Del Rey version, Mayer’s “Video Games” sounds like the forlorn soundtrack to some Western we’ve yet to see on the silver screen. Perhaps following in Trent Reznor‘s footsteps during this hiatus from singing isn’t such a bad idea?
