Saturday Night Live proved to be not only a winning performance for with regards to the album chart — his LP Making Mirrors flew back into the Top 10 of the Top 200 this week — but also on the Hot 100 singles chart. The moody “Somebody That I Used To Know” has unseated and ‘s “We Are Young” and becomes Gotye and his duet partner ‘s first chart-topper in the States. The 31-year-old singer is also now the first Australian artist to top the Hot 100 in the new millennium. (Gotye, whose real name is Wouter De Backer, was technically born in Belgium, but moved Down Under at the age of two.) Thank goodness for bitter breakups.
