susan boyle is a far better singer. she can sustain the entire song, whereas hathaway avoids the difficult parts.

  2. Peggy

    Susan Boyle.

  3. arletta peaarson

susan boyle sang this song so much stronger

  4. Alex

No comparison. Hands down, Susan Boyle rocked the house.

  5. Clare

Although Susan Boyle made the song strong and sang with great talent, Anne Hathaway gave the song meaning and emotion. You really can’t compare the two singers because they sing for two different reasons. If Hathaway had sung the way Boyle does, it wouldn’t have made a very good movie. I may be on my own in this, but I believe that Hathaway became a true artist in her portrayl of Fantine.

  6. No need to compare: two quality performers!

One a Solo performance when Susan “ROCKED” the Musical World in 2009 and still brings tears to my eyes 3 years LATER! Now her own “Musical” “I Dreamed Dream”

I am sure Anne will get plenty of “Rave” reviews for her film performance in “Les Miserables”

I love them both for helping us to believe
    in our “Dreams”!

Neither, because they should not be compared. This is like pitting apples against oranges. They may be singing the same song, but they’re both doing completely different things.

Susan Boyle was singing as herself. She was not limited by how she had to perform the song or what she had to portray, because the only thing that was being judged was her singing ability. She had the freedom to sing as loud and strong and as herself as she wanted.

Anne Hathaway isn’t just singing here, she’s acting. She having to portray Fantine; a woman the world has tossed aside because she’s an unwed mother. Hathway can’t simply make the song sound pretty here, she has to convey what Fantine is feeling as this point in the story. That’s why she’s choosing to sing it so soft and quiet. Because it’s an extremely personal song the character, and sometimes singing out can take away from the emotions conveyed.

Agreed annes voice is a bit higher than susans and may lack a bit of the power susan may have but it is prettier. So Im sure if she was singing this movies aside everybody may not be rooting for Susan boyle.

I’ve heard this song sung by a couple of people, including Susan Boyle…I was in the movie theater today, the trailer came on and Anne’s voice nearly had me in tears. I think music, much like acting, is best when it emotes. Anne nailed that.

  9. Anne Hathaway. Her voice maybe not as stronger as Susan Boyle. But she sings in tune. And she understand the meaning of the song, not only regurgitating words with loud voice.

  10. paul

Sussan sings better BUT she got the emotion totally wrong. So overall I think Anne Hathaway is better.

  11. Aaron

Anne became the song, Susan just sang it.

  12. Chad

No, Anne just did a cover. Susan gave the song a new meaning. Anne went through the emotions of what was expected, it felt very forced. Susan truly felt the song, a new cover, a new meaning.
