Beyonce has one of the best voices in the business, and now the singer will put it to use as one of the stars of a new animated film. The CGI-animated movie, Epic, will be produced by Blue Sky Studios, the makers of the Ice Age films and Rio, both which also employed pop stars as voiceover actors. Beyonce will play a character named Queen Tara, as if Bey’s voice could indicate anything other than royalty.

Epic  is described as a battle between good and evil, and the story involves a teenage girl transported into a secret universe. She teams up with “a rag-tag team of fun and whimiscal characters” to save this universe, and thus save the real world. Sounds… well, pretty epic, indeed.

Steven Tyler and Pitbull will also lend their voices to the film, which already boasts a release date: May 24, 2013. Blue Ivy will be about 17 months old at that point, which might be old enough for her to watch the film and recognize her mommy’s voice. Aww.

Beyonce has been lining up several new film projects. She was recently tapped to appear in Ryan Murphy‘s new movie musical One Hit Wonders, and is attached as the lead in Clint Eastwood’s remake of A Star Is Born.
