Isn’t it sad when an artist known for her originality starts following trends set by more generic, bland acts? Now, in her new “Every Single Night” video, Fiona Apple is jumping on the whole brain-smooshing, cow-dating, gravity-defying, squid-hatted, disturbed hula dancer, being-restrained-by-a-creepy-lifesize-puppet-thing bandwagon… oh, wait. Is that not a thing?
As we spied in the preview clip, Fiona Apple gets all sorts of points for creativity with the trippy visuals of her new vid, which is a good deal less sexy than her iconic “Criminal” but no less eye-catching. (It’s been six years since her last video — clearly she’s been saving up oddities in her head.) The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do drops June 19 (pretty much right around the time you’ll finish saying the album title aloud if you start now).

My mind is blown.
Really looking forward to Fiona’s new album on the 19th. Been listening to the stream on NPR too, and I think it’s brilliant songwriting, especially “Every Single Night”.
