If you got way excited thinking about the possibility of Adam Lambert taking one of the likely-open judging spots on American Idol, the pop star is bursting your bubble with reality. Though E! News reported that Idol producers have been in talks with Lambert “for over a month” about becoming a judge on the show that made him a star, this is the first Adam is hearing of it.

“I’m just hearing about this today as well, and so what a beautiful rumor,” Lambert said during an interview with UK’s Capital FM. “Listen, if — and I say ‘if’ with a capital I-F — if they were to approach me and if they were to say, ‘We want you to be a judge on the show,’ I would love that. I would jump at the chance.”

“I owe my career to American Idol,” he continued. “I mean, if it weren’t for American Idol, I doubt that I would be sitting here with you… I think it would be really exciting to be sitting at a judging panel and trying to help people reach their dreams.”

Lambert, who competed during Season 8 and appeared as a mentor on the ninth season of Idol, released an official statement further expressing his interest in the position. “Idol has an amazing history of introducing great musical talent, and I was very fortunate to have had the Idol stage play a big part in my career,” he said. “IF Idol wants to talk to me about Judging, I’d be more than flattered to have that conversation.”

It’s unfortunate that this was just a rumor, but it certainly got the idea in Adam’s head. And with the whole panel’s future up in the air, there might be three huge spots to fill. Better hurry up, Idol producers, before ten more singing competition shows pop up and steal all your possible candidates!
