Green Day’s “Oh Love”: Rock Out To The Lyric Video

Turns out Green Day‘s lead ¡Uno!single “Oh Love” is nothing like we expected, given that 16-second guitar solo tease from last week. We were thinking the Rob Cavallo-produced tune would be more in line with the Cali band’s material found on their last two political-leaning albums, American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. But instead, it plays more like a ’70s classic rock throwback. “Talk myself out of falling in love, falling in love with you,” Billie Joe Armstrong croons over punchy guitar chords.

“We were just thinking about making a killer power-pop record – dirtier, back to basics,” bassist Mike Dirt tells Rolling Stone. “We tapped into our version of Exile on Main Street.” Interesting reference. Do you think “Oh Love” sounds like the Rolling Stones, circa 1972? Either way, we’re just happy to hear Green Day take off in a new direction. Watch the kaleidoscopic lyric video above.
