Amy Winehouse’s Ex-Husband Blake Fielder-Civil In A Coma After Reported Drinking Binge

Unfortunately, it seems we have another tragic twist to add to the timeline of events that have occurred since Amy Winehouse‘s death in July 2011. It has been reported that the late singer’s ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is on life support after suffering multiple organ failure last Friday and being put into an induced coma. The 30-year-old was said to be found in bed choking by his partner Sarah Aspin. EMTs who arrived on the scene then reportedly noticed Fielder-Civil had swallowed his tongue and choked on his vomit. His left lung was also said to have stopped working.

According to UK paper The Sun, Fielder-Civil had spend last Friday afternoon drinking after meeting with a probation official. (He had been previously jailed four years ago on assault charges and once more last year for burglary.) The paper also notes that a source said Blake had taken heroin and morphine that day.

Fielder-Civil had been freed from his latest stint in jail only two weeks ago. Aspin, the mother of the pair’s son Jack, told The Sun, “At the hospital I realized they were frantically working on him, trying to keep him alive. They said his left lung was not working and they were trying to clear it.They let me in to hold his hand after 45 minutes. I found out later that they did that because they thought he was going to die.”

She added, “I am devastated, just devastated, at what has happened. I just want to cry all the time — but I have to be strong for our son Jack.”

Though not an entirely surprising turn of events, it’s sad to think that the saga of Amy Winehouse continues to be a tragic one, even a year after she passed away — and that real-life drama like this often overshadows the singer’s musical legacy.
