Taylor Swift has chosen next month’s MTV Video Music Awards as the vehicle for her debut live performance of new single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, which was released just one week ago. It be the first time anyone hears Tay belt out her current iTunes chart-topper, which is looking to rack up record sales.

The 2012 MTV VMAs will air live from Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Thursday, September 6. Swift joins a lineup of performers at the annual gig that so far includes Alicia Keys, Green Day, One Direction and Pink.

Meanwhile, MTV News also announced the first slate of presenters scheduled to hit the stage during the Video Music Awards. Look for Wiz Kahlifa, Mac Miller, Miley Cyrus and the Fierce Five of the London Olympics — that would be US gymnasts Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross — to hand moon men over to winning artists throughout the night.

Now, what are the odds Taylor will be singing her breakup song at the VMAs in front of at least two or three people she’s broken up with?
