Missy Elliott To Release “9th Inning” And “Triple Threat” Singles In September

Seven years after of Missy Elliott‘s The Cookbook gave us our last taste of the rapstress’ original material, she’ll apparently be busting out not one, but two new singles in September. Elliott’s longtime friend and collaborator Timbaland tweeted, “oh snapp yall my sista @MissyElliott is droppin her singles #9thinning and #triplethreat labor day weekend. watch it world we backk!!!”

That’s good news for fans who were disappointed when Block Party missed its June release date. It’s also a plus for her and Timbaland, in light of the fact that they’ll not be taking part in the upcoming posthumous album by their friend Aaliyah that Drake is heading up.

In February, Timbaland stated to MTV that the plan was for both his and Missy’s albums to have coinciding release dates. “Me and Missy are both coming with our albums at the same time, and it will be in June,” he said. “Right now, we’re preparing to get both our videos, our first singles, shot kinda at the same time. We want to do it as a movement and spontaneously.”

Below is a clip of Elliott performing “9th Inning” in New York in early April. It’s pretty shoddy quality, so we’re more than eager to hear the studio version of the cut.
