Randy Jackson Back In As ‘American Idol’ Judge

Last time we checked in with American Idol, Mariah Carey had officially signed on as a judge, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban were finalizing judging deals, Randy Jackson was reassigned to a mentor role and producers were pursuing Enrique Iglesias for the fourth judge’s chair. Got all that? Good, now forget it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Enrique plan has been abandoned and Randy is back on the judges’ table. Oh what confusion Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez hath wrought! We’re proceeding under the assumption that this is all fluid, since at the VMAs, when asked about her Idol deal, Minaj stayed mum and the network has yet to comment on most of these developments. With auditions starting at the end of this month, let’s hope we’re not forced to watch an empty chair judge. We all know how that went with Ellen.
