The members of the male sex Nicki Minaj sing-raps about in new tune “The Boys” don’t exactly come across as being the most desirable. “Your lipstick stains smell like a cheap hotel, diamond watches and a gold chain can’t make my frown turn around,” she laments on this, the first single from the upcoming Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded — The Re-Up. (Catch all the words over at DirectLyrics.com.)

The arrival of the tune leaves one mystery solved, as it Cassie emerged as the (very lucky) surprise guest Minaj enlisted for “The Boys.” It’s been a minute (actually, make that six years) since that particular electro-R&B diva had a solid hit. Still, that could all change thanks to this feature. Listen to the pair gripe about their gents over a rat-a-tat beat below.

Nicki Minaj featuring Cassie — ”The Boys”

Overall, “The Boys” probably won’t shake out as being the most memorable entry into Nicki’s canon of jams. For starters, the beat is a tad dated, and Minaj’s Auto Tune use is running more rampant than usual here. That said, we dig the way Cassie’s soft vocals glide in atop a shimmery acoustic guitar.

What do you say, Barbz — will “The Boys” reach the soaring heights of “Starships,” or is this a total miss for Ms. Minaj? Let us know below, or by hitting us up on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. It’s not her worst, it definitely grows on you. I think it certainly blends her rap and pop music style without having to sound like “Starships” or “Pound the Alarm,” which sound clearly more pop than rap.
For the “Roman Reloaded” era it does sound a little out of place, but I think that’s a good thing. It doesn’t sound like she’s trying too hard to please pop radio with this song. She just sounds like the Nicki we’ve grown to love from the start. It’s also nice to have Cassie back.
