Miguel‘s second LP Kaleidoscope Dream has been previewed twice via the Water and Air EPs, and we’ve gotten a couple “Adornremixes, but now we can hear the whole effort ahead of its October 2 release. The album finds Miguel taking elements from several genres — melding squiggly electro synths with coarse echoes of reverb, or strings with a crunchy guitar or even sampling The Zombies — but the amalgamations never feel overwrought.

His clean voice is similarly effortless, never sounding strained or overpowering, and its precision serves as a shiny gloss over the hazy layers. Like fellow R&B up-and-comer Jessie Ware,  Miguel has deftly combined empty space with lush sonics to create a thrilling take on the genre. Listen to it over at NPR.
