Miguel‘s new album, Kaleidoscope Dream, has already won him critical acclaim and comparisons to Frank Ocean, Drake and The Weeknd. Now, after his lead single “Adorn” cracked the Top 40 on the Hot 100 and earned him his third #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, the soulful vocalist is riding out that high with the video for the second single from the album, “Do You…”
It’s a slow-burning, sultry jam built around the seductive hook “Do you like love? Do you like drugs? Well, me too.” Miguel’s vocal delivery is on-point, alternating between a dreamy falsetto and a velvety croon, and the video complements that contrast nicely.
Juxtaposing haunting tableaus of the Nevada desert with close shots of Miguel in black-and-white, the video follows the singer and his real-life rumored girlfriend, the actress and model Nazanin Mandi, as they roll around town, getting increasingly intimate as the night progresses. That footage is intercut with a sequence of Miguel performing on stage in a packed club, but all the visuals ramp up in intensity while the song builds toward its climax.
“Do You…” is easily as mainstream as “Adorn,” and coupled with this stunner of a video, the wildly talented and perennially underrated Miguel might have a real shot at serious radio play.
