Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding’s “I Need Your Love”: Hear The Dance Track
Ellie Goulding is crossing even further over into dance territory. The UK chanteuse, whose sophomore LP Halcyon drops Tuesday, October 9, teamed up with Scottish house-master Calvin Harris on “I Need Your Love,” a single from his upcoming album 18 Months — and it showcases a whole new Ellie.
Video game bleeps and bloops provide a bed for Goulding’s characteristically fragile, twee vocals, which sound even more haunting in the context of Harris’ futuristic electro instrumentation. Goulding usually works in poetic, dreamy lyrics, but in “I Need Your Love,” that style gets traded for an infectious “We Found Love”-style hook: “I need your love, I need your time / When everything’s wrong, you make it right / I feel so high, I come alive / I need to be free with you tonight.” Harris is the master of the big house crescendo, jerking the viewer up to euphoric peaks and down to sparkly lulls, and he’s in fine form here.
