With even Barack Obama weighing in on Nicki Minaj‘s interpersonal drama, you’d expect her to going a little bit higher-concept with her video strategies — maybe a video symbolically depicting her triumph over Mariah Carey in this year’s election season? — but alas, she’s kept it pretty simple in her video for “The Boys.”
The clip for her latest single, the first taken from her grammatically convoluted Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded — The Re-Up rerelease, just premiered on Vevo and it’s — well, it’s heavy on Minaj’s extraordinary proportions and spectacularly bright colors, although things heat up a bit when Cassie, who performs the song’s hook, shows off her killer body in a white one-piece, followed by a string of successively more glamorous outfits.
Look, everyone looks very grown-and-sexy in their cool clothes and cool cars, but at the end of the day, this is just five minutes of quick shots of Nicki Minaj and Cassie styled to the nines in crazy outfits. Whatever — it works.
