Aside from his breakout single “Home,” Phillip Phillips hasn’t given fans much to work with in knowing what to expect from his upcoming debut LP The World From The Side Of The Moon — but the album sampler, just released in anticipation of Moon‘s November 19 release, gives a solid taste of Phillips’ sound.
Based on this preview, it positions him somewhere between Mumford & Sons and Jason Mraz — not bad points of reference at all — with gleaming hooks and rootsy instrumentation. On several songs, there are strong echoes of Mumford’s recent single “I Will Wait,” with a little Dave Matthews Band flavor, especially on the tensely gorgeous “Hold On” and the twangy “Where We Came From.” Who knows — Phillips could usher in a whole new era of organic-sounding college rock. Check it after the jump.
