With his decadently moody R&B project The Weeknd, Toronto’s Abel Tesfaye has been a large driver of the genre’s increasing ethereality. And nowhere is his particular interpretation of R&B more overt than on “The Zone.” The Drake collaboration is one of Tesfaye’s iciest songs (Tesfaye repeatedly croons, “I can’t feel a damn thing”), and the self-directed video is equally dark and mysterious.
