One Direction’s ‘Take Me Home’ Debuts At #1 On Album Chart

Give yourselves a pat on the back, Directioners, because your love of One Direction has truly paid off: The boy band notched another #1 album, their second in less than a year, as their sophomore LP Take Me Home took the top slot on the Billboard 200 chart this week, moving 540,000 units. Earlier this year, Taylor Swift‘s Red sold 1.2 million in its first week and Mumford & Sons‘ Babel shifted 600,000 copies, giving 1D the third-best sales week of the year. Not bad, y’all!

Following last week’s charts, which saw Swift seizing the #1 spot for the third consecutive week with Red, One Direction set a few records with this newest accomplishment: They’re the first group to debut at #1 with their first two albums since Danity Kane (R.I.P.), and the second act of the year to have two #1 albums within the span of 12 months. (Justin Bieber pulled that off earlier in 2012.)

Swift’s Red fell to #2 this week, with the soundtrack to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 debuting at #3 with 93,000 copies. Just after that was The Weeknd‘s major-label debut at #4 with 86,000 units, then rock act Soundgarden at #5, with Rod Stewart‘s holiday album just behind at #6.

We won’t make too much hay of the fact that Christina Aguilera‘s much-discussed fifth studio album Lotus limped in at #7 with 73,000 units moved, but suffice it to say that we’d thought there were enough true music lovers left to at least lobby her into the Top 5. Outcharted by Rod Stewart? Oh, Legendtina.
