It’s Thanksgiving: The Top 10 Things We’re Thankful For In 2012

Idolator Staff | November 22, 2012 5:00 am

Thanksgiving is a magical holiday, isn’t it? It’s a time for reflection on the past year and the many bounties it brought our way — and here at Idolator, we can’t help but feel that 2012 gave us an extraordinary cornucopia of pop culture moments for which we want to give thanks. From the instant classic that is Nicole Westbrook‘s smash single “It’s Thanksgiving” (see above) to the hyper-memeability of Lana Del Rey, our staffers each contributed a few items that made us feel grateful.

Head below to see the full list.

Robbie Daw:

I’m thankful for Lana Del Rey’s disastrous SNL performance, for giving us a year of incredible memes.

I’m thankful for Frank Ocean for coming out and kicking down that barrier in the hip hop community.

I’m thankful for Kween Nicole Westbrook for giving her growing fan base the only holiday song that will ever matter again: “It’s Thanksgiving”

Erika Adickman:

I’m thankful for Chris Brown‘s terrorist Halloween costume, because I think it helped those on the fence about his character make up their minds. In the wise words of Maya Angelou, “When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. Or, you know, after they get a neck tattoo.”

I’m thankful for Miley Cyrushaircut, because she proved you don’t have to be a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown, going through a bad breakup or entering the witness protection program to grab a pair of scissors and just start snipping.

I’m thankful for getting to see Justin Bieber on his Believe tour — because watching him point in my direction before calling out not me, but my friend, has prepared me for any any and all disappointments life throws my way.

Carl Williott:

I’m thankful for Rihanna‘s lewd patty-cake session on Saturday Night Live earlier this year, because it was the most Rihanna thing she could’ve done after skipping the dress rehearsal.

I’m thankful for Passion Pit lending “Take A Walk” to a Taco Bell commercial. Because, while depressing, it reminds me that there are still some ways for musicians not named Dr. Dre to make money.

I’m thankful that Lana Del Rey’s Paradise was so good. Because now we can finally stop talking about her.

Sam Lansky:

I’m thankful for Christina Aguilera turning up the camp factor this year with her album Lotus, and for ABC red carpet correspondent Eden Sher for calling her “Legendtina Goduilera” and asking her whether Lotus is an acronym for “Legend Of The United States” at the American Music Awards.

I’m thankful for Paris Hilton‘s sonic masterpiece “Drunk Text,” and for “Last Night” for finally leaking.

I’m thankful for Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe.” Period.

What are you grateful for this year? Sound off in the comments, or let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
